When Peter Charles Leitch, QSM, says he’s helped a few people along the way it is an understatement.

He is the chairman of the Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust and fellow trust member David Penny says he is being too modest.

“Peter is a remarkable man and as the publishers of this paper, we are honoured to work with him.

“The trust has generated about a $1 million worth of donations to charity and we would be the first to admit that Peter is the real driving force behind the trust’s work. I don’t think there are many families who had a child who got surgery for glue ear who will forget him.

“He was also a big supporter of prostate cancer, convincing Paul Holmes to tell his story, and really helping that group get on its feet,” Mr Penny says.

Mr Leitch says he found all the praise left him with a slightly strange feeling.

“The most special thing you can ever give people is your time.

“So all those people who have helped the trust, they are the real heroes because when they give you their time they are giving something really precious.”
