Lots of ways to get some exercise

Auckland City Harbour News - - News -

Drumming, water walking, hip hop and t’ai chi may not be seen as conventional exercise options.

But Aucklanders are being encouraged to think outside the square and try a new activity this winter.

AK Active’s winter places programme has begun and a range of different classes are on offer.

Classes cater for all ages and include drum for fun, three on three basketball, touch rugby, music and movement and jingles and jives for toddlers.

All classes are free and run at recreation centres in Avondale, Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, Mt Roskill, Wesley, Owairaka, Onehunga and Oranga.

Organised by the Auckland City Council, SPARC and the YMCA, the programme aims to get more Aucklanders using any opportunity they can to move.

It also aims to provide a greater range of exercise opportunities and increase the use of community facilities.
