Want to be a great chef? It starts here
The popularity of culinary arts as a profession has grown in recent years because of the boom in the leisure industry. Also, thanks in part to the number of slick TV shows on food preparation and cooking, chefs have become celebrities in their own right!
Established 22 years ago, the Auckland Hotel & Chefs Training School (AHCTS) is an excellent platform for those planning to enter an immensely creative field, which offers innumerable job opportunities.
As well as being the only private hospitality training school of its type in the CBD area - one that is purely focused on food service training - AHCTS has a slew of other big advantages: Seasoned professionals to guide you to your goals, rigorous kitchen drills, and most importantly huge industry networking.
So if you want to be a chef in a fine restaurant, start a catering company, or work on a luxury cruise ship, take the first step towards making those dreams come true by hitching your wagon to AHCTS. They know the industry inside out, and frankly when it comes to landing the best jobs, it all boils down to who you know.
With sites in Newmarket and Symonds St, close to the transport hubs, the school has introduced some old-fashioned values back into education. Like being passionate about students. And being passionate about food!
“Evidence of our devotion is in our growth and in the enthusiasm employers have for our students,” says recruitment manager Kirsty Denyer.
AHCTS staff are industry veterans who continue to work their magic in fine kitchens. Each of them has a minimum of 15 years’ experience. Consequently, their tutorial standards are high and relevant to today’s industry standards.
AHCTS has an excellent mix of free and fee-paying courses, and there are skill enhancement programmes for Maori and Pacific islanders.
There are entry-level courses where schoolleavers with a flair for cooking can develop skills.
They are also proud of their award-winning reputation, and for being a sponsorship member of the yearly National College Challenge culinary competition.
AHCTS is located at 8-10 Mountain Rd, Newmarket. Phone 307-6877. Website: www.ahcts.co.nz.
