De­velop your fit­ness through yoga

At­tend­ing a yoga class ev­ery week will de­velop stamina and build strength - what can be called ‘yoga fit­ness’.

At New­ton Yoga they of­fer stu­dents the op­por­tu­nity to study yoga in an en­vi­ron­ment of pro­gres­sive learn­ing.

Yoga orig­i­nated in In­dia many cen­turies ago and is now prac­tised through­out the world. It is both an art and a science, and is a time-hon­oured method of de­vel­op­ing fit­ness, aware­ness of the body, and self-dis­ci­pline.

The teach­ing at New­ton Yoga is de­signed to sup­port and chal­lenge your abil­ity as you progress through the lev­els. There is an em­pha­sis on pre­ci­sion and align­ment in the asanas, or poses, based on a stable foun­da­tion. The poses are per­formed by the body, but also re­quire the en­gage­ment of the mind and the in­volve­ment of the emo­tions.

Classes are run on a four-weekly cy­cle be­gin­ning on the first of the month and fin­ish­ing on the 28th. Each of the four weeks has a par­tic­u­lar teach­ing fo­cus so it is im­por­tant to at­tend at least one class ev­ery week.

Classes are taught in three lev­els - in­tro­duc­tory, Level 1 and Level 2.

In the in­tro­duc­tory course stu­dents are in­tro­duced to the foun­da­tion poses and learn how to use the equip­ment, which is all pro­vided. With a max­i­mum num­ber of eight stu­dents per class, stu­dents re­ceive in­di­vid­ual in­struc­tion.

Min­i­mum en­rol­ment for the in­tro­duc­tory course is 12 lessons. This usu­ally means one les­son per week for 12 weeks, but if you want to ac­cel­er­ate your progress, you can at­tend up to three lessons per week.

In the Level 1 course, stu­dents are taught the poses in more de­tail and con­tinue to re­ceive in­di­vid­ual in­struc­tion on how to work them­selves and the equip­ment. Stu­dents are en­cour­aged to de­velop their own prac­tice us­ing rep­e­ti­tion of the process to build strength and stamina. In Level 2, stu­dents learn more ad­vanced poses and de­velop a deeper aware­ness in their yoga prac­tice.

Private lessons are also avail­able - they are a great way to im­prove your progress.
