A spirited performance by Ponsonby Ponies against Te Atatu wasn’t enough to lift them up the Fox preliminary league series table on Saturday.

The Ponies went down 40-22 to the west Auckland club at Jack Colvin Park, after pushing Richmond hard during their 3416 loss in the previous round.

At the other end of the table, Mt Albert remain unbeaten after thumping Pakuranga 70-4 at Ti Rakau Park.

And Marist continued their steady climb up the table at Murray Halberg Park, defeating highly-rated East Coast Bays 28-10.

Richmond suffered at the hands of Northcote, losing 68-6 at Birkenhead War Memorial, while Bay Roskill were on the receiving end of an 88-4 hiding from Otahuhu at Blockhouse Bay.

This week Mt Albert host Richmond at Fowlds Park, Marist clash with Ellerslie at Murray Halberg Park, Ponsonby tackle East Coast Bays at Victoria Park and Bay Roskill play Papakura at Blockhouse Bay.

All matches start at 2.30pm.

Driving forward: Ponsonby’s Sefesi Fainu attempts to break the tackle of Te Atatu’s Ben Pitone, left, and Lautaimi Malaitai in their Fox preliminary league match at Jack Colvin Park on Saturday.
