The Auckland leg of the 15th Annual Storylines Festival of New Zealand Children’s Writers and Ilustrators features a seminar, workshops and a family fun day.
On June 11, there will be a seminar featuring British picturebook star Babette Cole – author of sex education book Mummy Laid an Egg – and award-winning Australian author Carole Wilkinson.
The Heritage Hotels Seminar Series will be chaired by Gavin Bishop at the Heritage Hotel from 6pm.
Writing and illustration workshops for youngsters are being held in Albany, Manurewa, Remuera and Glen Eden on June 14.
Adults can also learn to tell tales in a workshop with American storyteller and author Cathy Spagnoli.
Tickets for the workshops and seminars can be bought at www.storylines.org. nz or from the Jabberwocky Children’s Bookshop.
The free family day is being held at the Aotea Centre on June 15 and is expected to attract more than 20,000 children and their families, drawn by the chance to meet the people who write the books they love.
International guests will join a throng of New Zealand authors and illustrators.
Guests can hear Joy Cowley, Margaret Mahy, Dorothy Butler, David Hill and Anna Mackenzie.
Comic artists Ant Sang, Bro’town and Dylan Horrocks will also be there.
