Who’s who to gather for Sto­ry­lines

Na­tional trea­sures Joy Cow­ley and Mar­garet Mahy are among the high-profile chil­dren’s au­thors mak­ing an ap­pear­ance as part of a fes­ti­val for chil­dren.

The Auck­land leg of the 15th An­nual Sto­ry­lines Fes­ti­val of New Zealand Chil­dren’s Writ­ers and Ilus­tra­tors fea­tures a sem­i­nar, work­shops and a fam­ily fun day.

On June 11, there will be a sem­i­nar fea­tur­ing Bri­tish pic­ture­book star Ba­bette Cole – au­thor of sex ed­u­ca­tion book Mummy Laid an Egg – and award-win­ning Aus­tralian au­thor Ca­role Wilkin­son.

The Her­itage Ho­tels Sem­i­nar Se­ries will be chaired by Gavin Bishop at the Her­itage Ho­tel from 6pm.

Writ­ing and il­lus­tra­tion work­shops for young­sters are be­ing held in Albany, Ma­nurewa, Re­muera and Glen Eden on June 14.

Adults can also learn to tell tales in a work­shop with Amer­i­can sto­ry­teller and au­thor Cathy Spag­noli.

The free fam­ily day is be­ing held at the Aotea Cen­tre on June 15 and is ex­pected to at­tract more than 20,000 chil­dren and their fam­i­lies, drawn by the chance to meet the peo­ple who write the books they love.

In­ter­na­tional guests will join a throng of New Zealand au­thors and il­lus­tra­tors.

Guests can hear Joy Cow­ley, Mar­garet Mahy, Dorothy But­ler, David Hill and Anna Macken­zie.

Comic artists Ant Sang, Bro’town and Dylan Hor­rocks will also be there.
