Move buses to clear air
My family recently had lunch at a coffee shop on the main street at St Heliers.
During this time buses stopped directly outside every 10 minutes and we endured a constant whiff of fumes and the noise of diesel engines.
This was not only unpleasant and unhealthy for those in the cafe‚ but also for people walking along the street.
It would be more sensible to place the bus stop either before or after the shopping area, which would involve only a short walk from the shops for commuters.
The slight inconvenience of walking a short distance to the new bus stop would far outweigh the health hazard that shoppers and diners, particularly young children, are faced with.
We did write to the council but they believed nothing could be done because it would involve considerable expense and require significant reorganising of the existing bus routes.
I cannot understand why it would be expensive or diffi to move a bus stop to a more suitable position for the health benefits of those who want to enjoy the waterfront.
