Flower show gets approval
The Auckland Flower Show coming to Epsom in November has been given the tick of approval.
The Auckland City Council, the Newmarket Business Association and the gardening industry’s representative body have all signalled their commitment to the success of the flower show at Alexandra Park.
Mayor John Banks says the easy accessibility of the venue makes it ideal for both visitors and Aucklanders.
“We’re looking forward to assisting in a successful endeavour for the benefit of Auckland and New Zealand,” he says.
Nursery and Garden Industry Association president Peter Fraser says it fully supports the event which will promote “gardening and horticulture industries to a large audience in Auckland”.
He is also pleased with the focus on environmental standards. Organisers have established sustainability guidelines that will apply to all facets of the event’s operations.
Exhibitors will also be encouraged to integrate sustainability principles into garden designs.
The Newmarket Business Association is looking to the Chelsea Flower Show in England for ideas on how the shopping district can tie itself in with the show.
“One idea could be to encourage retailers to create beautiful floral displays in their shop windows,” general manager Cameron Brewer says.
“One thing’s for sure – we want to link Newmarket in with this event and hence we’re delighted that a flower show of this calibre has returned to central Auckland.”
The show will be from November 20 to 23.
