Kids set example

Auckland City Harbour News - - Opinion - MIKE HOWELL Mt Roskill

I’d like to thank people who have been picking up rubbish and recycling in their areas.

Some time ago our family adopted the May Rd stream and I am delighted to say that the refuse content in the stream has dropped markedly.

I suspect the involvement of the pupils of nearby schools, who your paper has shown taking an interest in picking out rubbish and recycling upstream of “our” part of the stream, has been a huge help.

It’s very heartening to discover and far more constructive than writing letters blaming the council for dirty streets, centres, etc.

We all ought to follow the kids’ example and rather than step over a piece of trash or recycling and whinge about it being there, pick it up and perform a service for the community.

Heartfelt thanks to those who do.
