Par­nell race out to lead

It’s a race be­tween Pom­pal­lier, West End and Blockhouse Bay to catch Caro Bowl ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion leaders Par­nell.

All three teams came away with valu­able vic­to­ries in the in­ter­club tour­na­ment on Fri­day night. But so did Par­nell, who re­main un­beaten af­ter two rounds.

West End’s men came back af­ter their week one loss to Par­nell to score a 6-0 victory over Ko­hi­marama.

Only Teo Sus­n­jak was pushed to three sets, with Adam Thomp­son, Mark Nielsen, Wes­ley Whitehouse and James Green­halgh all com­ing away with easy straight set wins against the Kohi youngsters.

Pom­pal­lier scored a 5-1 win over Royal Oak but dropped the top sin­gles match. The steady play of Wei Wei was too much for Finn Tear­ney.

The Blockhouse Bay com­bi­na­tion of James and Tim Mered­ith helped their team beat Camp­bell Park 5-1.

In women’s action Abi­gail Guthrie, Ni­cola Kai­wai, An­gela Swinkels and Gabrielle Grady helped Royal Oak score a con­vinc­ing 6-0 win over Pom­pal­lier.

Next week the Pom­pal­lier men host Par­nell, while West End play Camp­bell Park, Royal Oak face Re­muera, and Blockhouse Bay take on Ko­hi­marama.

The Man­gere com­bined women’s team wel­come Pom­pal­lier and Ko­hi­marama lock horns with Royal Oak.
