Parnell race out to lead
It’s a race between Pompallier, West End and Blockhouse Bay to catch Caro Bowl tennis competition leaders Parnell.
All three teams came away with valuable victories in the interclub tournament on Friday night. But so did Parnell, who remain unbeaten after two rounds.
West End’s men came back after their week one loss to Parnell to score a 6-0 victory over Kohimarama.
Only Teo Susnjak was pushed to three sets, with Adam Thompson, Mark Nielsen, Wesley Whitehouse and James Greenhalgh all coming away with easy straight set wins against the Kohi youngsters.
Pompallier scored a 5-1 win over Royal Oak but dropped the top singles match. The steady play of Wei Wei was too much for Finn Tearney.
The Blockhouse Bay combination of James and Tim Meredith helped their team beat Campbell Park 5-1.
In women’s action Abigail Guthrie, Nicola Kaiwai, Angela Swinkels and Gabrielle Grady helped Royal Oak score a convincing 6-0 win over Pompallier.
Next week the Pompallier men host Parnell, while West End play Campbell Park, Royal Oak face Remuera, and Blockhouse Bay take on Kohimarama.
The Mangere combined women’s team welcome Pompallier and Kohimarama lock horns with Royal Oak.
