A ceremony has been held to mark the start of work on the Auckland Art Gallery development.
Prime Minister Helen Clark and Auckland mayor John Banks unveiled a plaque on Thursday last week celebrating the official start of the gallery’s $113 million redevelopment.
The project comes 120 years after the gallery was established.
Miss Clark says the visionary development will secure the gallery’s future for at least another 100 years.
The gallery will have 50 percent more exhibition space. It is one of the largest heritage restoration projects undertaken in New Zealand.
