Not too late to en­rol for a vote on elec­tion day

So far 34,731 vot­ers have en­rolled in Ta­maki Makau­rau elec­torate.

Reg­is­trar of elec­tors Sharon Reece says there was a late flurry of reg­is­tra­tions in the fi­nal days be­fore en­rol­ment closed on Oc­to­ber 8.

Across the coun­try, en­rol­ment in Maori elec­torates stands at 224,000, up from 204,000 at the same time be­fore the 2005 elec­tion.

Voter turnout was poor across the Maori seats last elec­tion, with 67 per­cent of peo­ple en­rolled cast­ing their vote.

In Ta­maki Makau­rau the turnout was even lower, with just 62 per­cent hav­ing their say on polling day.

Vot­ers can still en­rol to cast a spe­cial vote up un­til the day be­fore polling day, Novem­ber 8.
