Transport costly

Auckland City Harbour News - - News -

Another report on inner city transport issues has cost ratepayers about $40,000.

The $80,000 study on parking in the central city was jointly funded by the Auckland City Council and Heart of the City.

It comes on top of $116,000 in reports, proposals and peer reviews into the now abandoned Queen St bus lane proposal.

Transport general manager Don Munro says the report is not directly related to the bus lane proposal.

It was commissioned as a result of concern from Heart of the City that parking was affecting people’s choice to visit the central city.

The study is expected to be reported to the CBD board and transport committee later this year.

The council is planning to spend another $500,000 on a wider study into central city transport.
