Barnardos needs caregivers

Auckland City Harbour News - - News -

Barnardos is looking for people to provide homebased care and education for children.

Team leader Jody Dodd-McGerty says more people are needed to sign up as KidStart caregivers.

Caregivers can provide care and education for up to four preschool children at home, including any children of their own.

A health check is done to make sure the environment is up to safety standards and the applicant has to do a medical check, police check and provide referees.

The house also needs a fenced outdoor play area.

Those who are successful complete a training course over two weeks and do a first aid course.

Once qualified, they are self-employed and contract to Barnardos for KidStart and are able to choose what days and what hours they work, says Ms Dodd-McGerty.
