Gro­cers’ cash for char­i­ties

Char­i­ties need­ing a help­ing hand have the chance to be­come a ben­e­fi­ciary of the Gro­cery Char­ity Ball.

Applications are now open for the 2009 ball, which is or­gan­ised by the gro­cery in­dus­try.

This year $150,000 was raised to sup­port the chil­dren’s helpline What’s Up and guide dog train­ing pro­gramme Hear­ing Dogs for Deaf Peo­ple.

More than $1 mil­lion has been raised for char­i­ties since the ball be­gan five years ago.

Ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est can be sent through the Gro­cery Char­ity Ball Trust web­site, www.gro­cerychar­i­ty­ or by phon­ing Scott MacKay on 021-636-167.

Pre­lim­i­nary applications must be re­ceived by 5pm on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 20.

A short­list of char­i­ties will then be asked to present their case to the ball trustees in the first week of De­cem­ber.
