Other options worthwhile

Auckland City Harbour News - - Letters - VICTORIA PARK Sandringham

Heather McCracken’s article on the Sandringham Rd upgrade in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup highlighted that both residents and the Eden Albert Community Board have concerns with the current proposal.

I am a concerned resident living near Eden Park and believe the Auckland City Council should be considering less expensive options for the upgrade and directing more of the $22 million fund to upgrading streets within the precinct.

Look at the beautiful Burnley Tce, the first through road between Sandringham and Dominion, south of Eden Park. It receives a huge volume of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

It also happens to be heritage-listed and could be remarkably improved if the council was to spend money on it and underground, thus fulfi their district plan.

But hey, don’t just stop there – improve the whole precinct and make it safe, attractive and leave a legacy for future generations to enjoy.

Don’t destroy our heritage and remove homes to create a link lane – work to enhance the area.
