Council rejects extra funding for Grey Lynn Park

A bid to secure more funding for Grey Lynn Park was defeated at the Auckland City Council’s 10year plan meeting last week.

Councillor Graeme Easte put forward a plan to earmark $303,000 in parks funding to complete a planned upgrade.

The money would top up $597,000 in development contributions available for the project.

The $1.9 million upgrade approved in 2003 was only partly completed, leaving $900,000 of work unfinished.

But arts, community and recreation general manager Jill McPherson said the park didn’t need the extra money.

“We believe that Grey Lynn Park is of perfectly good standard and therefore doesn’t rate as a priority for further funding over and above the $597,000.”

Councillor Greg Moyle did not speak during the debate and abstained from the vote.
