Preparations for the 2011 Rugby World Cup at Eden Park have taken another step forward with resource consent being granted for the new east stand.

The two-tiered stand, which will replace the terraces, has an 8600seat capacity, with another 8000 temporary seats set to be added for the tournament,

Eden Park Redevelopment Board chairman John Waller says all the major structural parts of the project now have resource consent.

He says the project remains on schedule and on budget, with the old south and south-west stands demolished and foundations for the replacement South Stand done.

Applications for resource consent to construct a transport hub and erect temporary seats will be lodged with the Auckland City Council next year.
