Regatta entries being taken
Entries are now open for the 2009 Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta.
Tall ships, vintage tugboats, classic yachts, gaff riggers and the Navy Frigate HMNZS Te Mana will be among hundreds of craft on the Waitemata Harbour on January 26 to celebrate Auckland’s 169th birthday.
The regatta is a special day on the sailing calendar with the best of the old and new on the harbour competing for silver trophies and cash prizes.
The harbour will also be host to Louis Vuitton Pacific Series contenders as they go through their paces before match racing starts.
The regatta is also a practise day for Kiwi Cup sailors with and without disabilities.
“The 2009 regatta day will be unique with a spectacle on land and sea that will bring our maritime history to life,” says organising chairman Eric Mahoney.
“It will be inspiring to know that we are sharing the water with some of the world’s best sailors.”
Information and entry forms are available at www.regatta.org.nz or call 0800 REGATTA.
