Re­gatta en­tries be­ing taken

En­tries are now open for the 2009 Ocean­bridge Auck­land An­niver­sary Day Re­gatta.

Tall ships, vin­tage tug­boats, clas­sic yachts, gaff rig­gers and the Navy Frigate HMNZS Te Mana will be among hun­dreds of craft on the Waitem­ata Har­bour on Jan­uary 26 to cel­e­brate Auck­land’s 169th birth­day.

The re­gatta is a spe­cial day on the sail­ing cal­en­dar with the best of the old and new on the har­bour com­pet­ing for sil­ver tro­phies and cash prizes.

The har­bour will also be host to Louis Vuit­ton Pa­cific Se­ries con­tenders as they go through their paces be­fore match racing starts.

The re­gatta is also a prac­tise day for Kiwi Cup sailors with and without dis­abil­i­ties.

“The 2009 re­gatta day will be unique with a spec­ta­cle on land and sea that will bring our mar­itime his­tory to life,” says or­gan­is­ing chair­man Eric Ma­honey.

“It will be in­spir­ing to know that we are shar­ing the wa­ter with some of the world’s best sailors.”
