Animal lovers will don cute and furry costumes this month to raise money for animal advocate group SAFE.

Volunteers will be rattling buckets for the annual street appeal on December 19 and 20.

Last year SAFE raised more than $300,000 for humane education programmes and awareness programmes about animal abuse.

This year money will go towards educational resources, research and teaching materials, campaigns and website development.

“We’re calling on compassionate people to help SAFE reach its goal of 1200 collectors,” says appeal coordinator Sacha Dowell.

“Dressing up as your favourite bear, bunny or reindeer is entirely optional but loads of fun.”

To volunteer go to www.safe.org.nz or phone (03) 379-9711.
