Rolling out Asian films
Asian cinema has joined the list of what’s on at the movies.
SkyCity Cinemas, which recently added Bollywood movies to its listings, is to trial an initiative for the wider Asian community.
SkyCity Cinema Asia starts on December 18 with Ip Man.
The films will be released on a “same day and date” schedule as in Asian markets. Most films will come from China and Hong Kong but the line-up will also feature releases from Korea, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan.
The films will play at Queen St, Highland Park and Manukau.
Ip Man, the true story of a kung fu grand master, will be shown in Mandarin with English and Chinese subtitles in Queen St, and in Cantonese with English and Chinese subtitles in Highland Park and Manukau.
