Town Hall organ back
The Auckland Town Hall organ is back home.
The organ has been in the Orgelbau Klais workshop in Bonn, Germany, where it has undergone restoration since January.
Built in 1911, the organ was mostly rebuilt in 1970 and is now being restored in a $3.5 million project, mostly funded by the Auckland City Council.
The organ arrived piece by piece in containers at Auckland’s port.
Unloading will begin in the first week of January and most of the organ will be re-installed by the end of February.
The official inauguration of the restored organ will not happen until March 2010 after the remaining parts are installed and adjusted.
