Teddy bears get their big day out
All teddies great and small will unite at Auckland Domain for the annual Teddy Bears Picnic this Sunday.
Mt Eden Kindergarten preschoolers had a special morning tea with their furry friends this week in the lead-up to the party, which also marks National Children’s Day.
The day has become a much-loved fixture for Aucklanders over its 27 years, offering free activities and entertainment.
This year will be particularly special as it is the last year the event will be held in Auckland Domain, says event organiser Sandra Beacham.
The picnic will have to shift next year because of resurfacing planned for the Domain.
She says an alternative venue is already being sought but nothing is confirmed.
All the usual attractions will be returning this year, including FairyClare’sFairyGrotto, entertainment on the JK Kid’s Stage and the Teddy Bears’Parade at 12.30pm.
Four-year-old Gabriella Abraham from Mt Eden Kindergarten says she and her teddy Tiger will be especially looking forward to the fairy grotto.
Finley Wright and his stuffed bunny PomPom are excited about the bouncy castles.
ABE’s Real Bagels is the new naming rights sponsor for the picnic and will be providing free bagels on the day.
Free buses are also available to the event and will be running outside 277 on Broadway in Newmarket from 10am to 11.45am and again between 1.30pm and 5pm.
MetroLink will also be offering free rides all day on Sunday for children under 12 carrying a teddy bear.
