Merrymaking at mardi gras
The Ponsonby Mardi Gras fundraiser at Western Park last week saw the community come together for an evening of gourmet treats, fun performances and quirky entertainment.
An auction of packages donated by Ponsonby businesses and retailers raised the first funds to go towards the planned street carnival being organised by the Ponsonby Business Association.
Business Association general manager Justin Bade says the night was a great success and everyone had a fantastic time.
He says final figures for the funds raised at the auction are still being tallied but he could confirm a profit was made.
He says a funding pool is now officially open and ready to be added to with further events and activities.
About 300 guests enjoyed dinner inside the Living Lounge tent set up for the Auckland Fringe Festival as they were entertained by stilt walkers, body painted acrobats and drag queens.
Local comedian Justine Smith MC’d on the night and highlights were performances by Hollie Smith and Leza Corbin.
Stilt walkers: Kila Kouture and Beats Master Jaffa.
