Call for info af­ter city stab­bing

Po­lice are looking for two men who as­saulted a cou­ple in the city last Fri­day.

The 23-year-old vic­tim and his 22-year-old girl­friend were walk­ing to their car on St Paul St and were on Gov­er­nor Fitzroy Place at 11.30pm when the in­ci­dent hap­pened.

The woman was ap­proached from be­hind by two men, who tried to grab her hand­bag. Her boyfriend in­ter­vened to pro­tect her but was hit over the head with a beer bot­tle.

His girl­friend ran off to get help and a short time later he came to­wards her clutch­ing his stom­ach, where he had been stabbed.

Po­lice spokes­woman Noreen He­garty says a car stopped and took the cou­ple to the Auck­land Hospi­tal, where the vic­tim un­der­went surgery for three hours.

Po­lice are looking for two men of Asian de­scent aged in their 20s.

One is de­scribed as be­ing more than 1.6 me­tres tall with a slim build with dyed blonde hair and black re­growth. He was wear­ing a black hooded top with a sil­ver de­sign on the front.

The sec­ond of­fender has a more solid build and was wear­ing a black t-shirt.
