Vessel on board for Variety Bash
Variety – The Children’s Charity will kick off its annual bash this year with an open day on board the HMNZS Canterbury.
With the help of the Royal New Zealand Navy, the public is invited on to the amphibious sea support sessel when it berths at Princes Wharf tomorrow.
The HMNZS Canterbury will be open to guests from 2pm to 4pm after the end of its voyage transporting 40 Variety Bash vehicles to Auckland.
The public will be able to meet crew members, take a tour of the ship, view the vehicles and take in city views.
The open day will be followed by the official launch of the week-long Variety Bash at 8am on Sunday when the vehicles disembark and begin their journey to New Plymouth.
Last year’s event saw vehicles travel from Wellington to Rotorua, raising almost $350,000 enroute.
