Ves­sel on board for Va­ri­ety Bash

Va­ri­ety – The Chil­dren’s Char­ity will kick off its an­nual bash this year with an open day on board the HMNZS Can­ter­bury.

With the help of the Royal New Zealand Navy, the pub­lic is in­vited on to the am­phibi­ous sea sup­port ses­sel when it berths at Princes Wharf to­mor­row.

The HMNZS Can­ter­bury will be open to guests from 2pm to 4pm af­ter the end of its voy­age trans­port­ing 40 Va­ri­ety Bash ve­hi­cles to Auck­land.

The pub­lic will be able to meet crew mem­bers, take a tour of the ship, view the ve­hi­cles and take in city views.

The open day will be fol­lowed by the of­fi­cial launch of the week-long Va­ri­ety Bash at 8am on Sun­day when the ve­hi­cles dis­em­bark and be­gin their jour­ney to New Ply­mouth.

Last year’s event saw ve­hi­cles travel from Welling­ton to Ro­torua, rais­ing al­most $350,000 en­route.
