Auckland’s landfills will have a lot less ewaste dumped in them thanks to a collection held in Grey Lynn last month.
The Grey Lynn 2030 group collected more than 12 tonnes of old computers, monitors and other equipment from 320 drop-offs in the Woolworths Grey Lynn carpark.
The collection was held to keep the e-waste from being dumped in upcoming inorganic collections.
Most of the equipment will have usable parts recycled, while some of the working computer equipment may be donated local schools.
Grey Lynn 2030 committee member Lynn Green says more than 60 percent of people surveyed heard about the collection after seeing a story about the event in the Auckland City Harbour News.
