Auck­land’s land­fills will have a lot less ewaste dumped in them thanks to a col­lec­tion held in Grey Lynn last month.

The Grey Lynn 2030 group col­lected more than 12 tonnes of old com­put­ers, mon­i­tors and other equip­ment from 320 drop-offs in the Wool­worths Grey Lynn carpark.

The col­lec­tion was held to keep the e-waste from be­ing dumped in up­com­ing in­or­ganic col­lec­tions.

Most of the equip­ment will have us­able parts re­cy­cled, while some of the work­ing com­puter equip­ment may be do­nated lo­cal schools.

Grey Lynn 2030 com­mit­tee mem­ber Lynn Green says more than 60 per­cent of peo­ple sur­veyed heard about the col­lec­tion af­ter see­ing a story about the event in the Auck­land City Har­bour News.
