Wash Festival good clean fun to help Red Cross
A 1km long clothesline will be strung up in Mission Bay this weekend as part of New Zealand’s first Wash Festival.
It will be held at Selwyn Reserve on Sunday and will feature the Ultra Long Clothesline which is expected to be more than 1km long.
The festival is being hosted by Colgate-Palmolive and New Zealand Red Cross.
In the lead-up to the festival Kiwis have been asked to donate quality clothing and manchester items to the Red Cross. Donated items will be hung on the clothesline at the festival.
“The Wash Festival is all about making laundry fun, while raising funds for Red Cross,” says ColgatePalmolive managing director Jose Manuel Estrada.
The festival will feature a series of activities, including wash relays and challenges, for the whole family to take part in.
There will also be face painting, balloon sculpturing, three-legged races and a sausage sizzle.
Red Cross staff will provide first aid and conduct first aid demonstrations including how to help a choking baby, how to assist drowning victims, dealing with cuts and burns and how to administer CPR.
“These are essential skills for all parents,” says Red Cross national retail manager Patrick Cummings.
Red Cross works closely with communities throughout the country, and proceeds from the sale of donated clothing and manchester items will benefit both national and global Red Cross projects.
Donations of clothing and manchester can still be made at Red Cross stores.
