Appeal for blankets for women’s refuge

Auckland City Harbour News - - News -

A massive blanket drive is being co-ordinated by Marist College to cover women’s refuges and emergency housing schemes.

Any donations of clean blankets and rugs will be accepted, says project organiser Carolyn Phillips.

She says the Mt Albert school has a social justice group of 400 girls who are keen to help make a difference.

“The students felt that with winter well and truly here, they would concentrate their efforts on helping women and children who no longer find it safe to live in their home and for families in emergency housing facilities,” she says.

Through fundraising initiatives like mufti days, the college has already raised more than $1500 for the cause.

Blankets can be taken into the school office, where they will be collected and distributed by the Catholic Caring Foundation.

For more information on the blanket drive, phone Ms Phillips on 846-8311.
