House prices in Pt Chevalier, Westmere, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and Waterview bucked the trend last month, with an average sale price of $608,997 recorded.

The figure was up 4.2 percent on the average over the past year, says Barfoot & Thompson.

Houses in the inner suburbs and the eastern bays achieved prices that remained constant or declined slightly.

“Our sales statistics show that homes around central Auckland and the eastern bays are attracting keen buyer attention,” says managing director Peter Thompson.

“In June we sold 75 percent more homes in this area than we did during the same month last year.

“The housing market recovery is this area has been quicker and is showing greater depth and solidity than anyone was anticipating.”

The average price achieved across Auckland was $521,791.

“As buyers return to the market, the initial focus is on convenient locations that have a reputation for representing value for money.”
