Those with green thumbs want­ing to help out in the com­mu­nity have a num­ber of op­tions over the next four weeks.

There’s a plant­ing day at Heron Park in Water­view on Sun­day at 10am. Meet in the carpark at the end of Cad­man Place.

A com­mu­nity tree-plant­ing day will be held at San­dring­ham on July 25 from 10am.

The St Lukes En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion So­ci­ety is run­ning the event along the banks of Me­ola Creek in Kerr Tay­lor Park.

There will be more plant­ing there on Au­gust 15. For de­tails call Melissa Mar­ler on 021-676-416.

Na­tive trees will be planted to re­store the nat­u­ral char­ac­ter of Me­ola Creek in Western Springs on July 26. Meet on Mo­tions Rd opposite the Auck­land Zoo en­trance for a 10am start.

There will be a day of plant­ing na­tive trees at

Cox’s Bay Re­serve in West­mere on Au­gust 9. Meet at the park’s Not­ting­ham St en­trance at 10am.

Wear sturdy shoes, warm cloth­ing and a rain­coat in wet weather. Gar­den gloves and a spade will be use­ful.

Light re­fresh­ments will be avail­able.
