Cash boost helps surgery waiting lists
Cardiac surgery will happen for 99 Aucklanders as quickly as possible after the health board received more funding from the government.
The Auckland District Health Board has obtained an additional $5 million, enabling Auckland Hospital and private hospitals to perform more surgeries.
Minister of Health Tony Ryall says that rather than sit back and let a situation develop, the government has taken action.
“The government has allocated the extra funding to provide operations for these patients as quickly as possible.”
Health board chief medical officer David Sage says it is very happy with the extra money because it will allow patients who have been waiting to have surgery get it done within the next four months.
“This funding will mean by October no one will need to wait longer than three months for their cardiac surgery,” says Dr Sage.
