Movie time for couple
Tickets are still on sale for a movie screening this weekend that will help raise money for a Mt Albert couple who have suffered from a string of bad luck.
SkyCity Cinemas and the Auckland City Harbour News will hold a special screening of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 3D this Saturday.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Dean and Sacha Viall, whose world was shattered just over a year ago after Sacha contracted a common cold sore virus.
Previously an accountant, Sacha is now confined to a wheelchair after the virus led to a rare brain infl She spent time in a coma and part of her skull had to be removed to relieve the pressure on her brain.
Her husband Dean decided to give up his job as a recruitment consultant to become Sacha’s fulltime caregiver but as neither of them were working, Dean was made bankrupt while they struggled to secure a benefit to care for Sacha.
Dean also lost his sister Melissa after she was deliberately run down by a driver in 2006.
The couple’s plight featured in the Auckland City Harbour News after taxi driver Tony Fallahi, a stranger to the pair, paid for car repairs when they could not afford it.
Since the story appeared, generous offers have flooded in and SkyCity has donated a cinema to hold the special movie screening.
Tickets are $20 each which includes a Coke and popcorn – with the full amount from each ticket going directly to the couple for medical expenses and ongoing costs.
The movie will screen at SkyCity Cinemas St Lukes this Saturday at 2pm.
