Dogs blow sec­ond chance

It’s all over for the Rich­mond Bull­dogs in this year’s sec­ond-divi­sion Shar­man Cup club rugby league com­pe­ti­tion.

The reign­ing cham­pi­ons lost 31-18 to the Glenora Bears on Satur­day at Birken­head War Memo­rial Park in the elim­i­na­tion semi­fi­nal.

It was a sec­ond chance for the Bull­dogs, who lost 44-14 to the How­ick Hor­nets last week.

The Bull­dogs fin­ished sec­ond in the Shar­man Cup round-robin be­hind How­ick, but qual­i­fied for the play-offs ahead of the third-placed Glenora Bears.

Mean­while the Mt Al­bert Lions’ op­po­nents in the Fox Memo­rial fi­nal have been re­vealed. The Pa­pakura Sea Ea­gles de­feated top qual­i­fiers the Otahuhu Leop­ards 26-20 in semi­fi­nal action on Satur­day.

The Fox Memo­rial fi­nal be­tween Mt Al­bert and Pa­pakura kicks off at 2.45pm on Satur­day at Mt Smart Sta­dium 2.

Tick­ets are $5 adults, $2 chil­dren un­der-15, with un­der-fives free.

The third divi­sion Phe­lan Shield fi­nal be­tween Wai­heke and New Lynn also takes place at Mt Smart from 10.30am, while the Shar­man Cup fi­nal be­tween How­ick and Glenora kicks off at 12.20pm.
