Dogs blow second chance
It’s all over for the Richmond Bulldogs in this year’s second-division Sharman Cup club rugby league competition.
The reigning champions lost 31-18 to the Glenora Bears on Saturday at Birkenhead War Memorial Park in the elimination semifinal.
It was a second chance for the Bulldogs, who lost 44-14 to the Howick Hornets last week.
The Bulldogs finished second in the Sharman Cup round-robin behind Howick, but qualified for the play-offs ahead of the third-placed Glenora Bears.
Meanwhile the Mt Albert Lions’ opponents in the Fox Memorial final have been revealed. The Papakura Sea Eagles defeated top qualifiers the Otahuhu Leopards 26-20 in semifinal action on Saturday.
The Fox Memorial final between Mt Albert and Papakura kicks off at 2.45pm on Saturday at Mt Smart Stadium 2.
Tickets are $5 adults, $2 children under-15, with under-fives free.
The third division Phelan Shield final between Waiheke and New Lynn also takes place at Mt Smart from 10.30am, while the Sharman Cup final between Howick and Glenora kicks off at 12.20pm.
Charging forward: Richmond’s Siliga Kepaoa is wrapped up by two Glenora players during their semifinal loss at Birkenhead War Memorial on Saturday.
