Dragon gets 50th makeover

It’s been slain, be­friended and played on by count­less chil­dren over the years and this month Auck­land Zoo’s play­ground dragon turns 50.

The 15-me­tre-long dragon has be­come a much-loved zoo icon and fa­mous photo stop.

The zoo is looking for his­toric pho­tos to mark his birth­day and is en­cour­ag­ing the pub­lic to send in their pho­tos, old and new.

All pic­tures are wel­come and will be dis­played in the zoo’s chil­dren’s area from Septem­ber 26 to Oc­to­ber 11.

All photo en­trants will also go in the draw to win zoo prizes.

The dragon is off dis­play un­til Oc­to­ber 3 be­cause he is re­ceiv­ing a birth­day makeover.

Photo en­tries can be hand de­liv­ered to the zoo, emailed to pic sweb@ auck­land city.govt.nz or mailed to Dragon Photo Com­pe­ti­tion, Auck­land Zoo, Pri­vate Bag, Grey Lynn, Auck­land.
