A way to go
Congratulations on a thoughtprovoking and well written set of articles on racism a sensitive and difficult topic.
The range of feeling on this goes from “it’s not a problem in New Zealand, mate” through to “racism is rife and it’s completely hopeless”.
I can understand both extremes but my view is in the middle. We have come a long way but we still have a way to go.
I have only ever met a single person who is not racist to any extent. This man is not racist, sexist, ageist or judgemental in any way. I realised this when he was giving me a ride and a car cut him off.
His response was to say something along the lines of: “Blast that brown car.”
This was an eye-opener because often people respond with a racist or sexist comment. I have observed his behaviour since and I’ve realised he never makes comments based on a person’s ethnicity,
