Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

The new kid on the block is promising a sneak peek of things to come at the upcoming Ponsonby Market Day celebrations.

The neighbourhood has watched with interest as the epic Ponsonby Central development unfolds on Ponsonby Rd, between Brown St and Richmond Rd. The complex is due to open in October.

The renovated 1950s character building is set to boast a produce market, an in-house radio station and a laneway through to Brown Street Reserve.

Ponsonby Central’s owner Andy Davies says despite not yet being open for business, the unique market will be joining the festivities of Ponsonby Market Day on September 22.

Tenants of the new development will be in the car park with stalls, offering ‘‘a taste of what’s to come to Ponsonby Central’’.

In addition to the markets, Mr Davies will be holding an audition for buskers and performance artists with a prize for best performance.

The Andy’s Choice Award of a $500 paid gig at the Ponsonby Central opening celebrations is up for grabs for the top performer. Mr Davies intends to have traditional market-style buskers as a regular feature at Ponsonby Central and the auditions will ensure the standard is high and varied.
