Date: Oc­to­ber 20, 1948 Lo­ca­tion: Prest­wick Air­port, Scot­land Air­line: KLM Royal Dutch Air­lines. Lil­lian Lang­ton and her hus­band es­caped be­ing in­volved in a fatal plane crash in 1948.

Their Dutch Air­lines plane was re­turn­ing to Scot­land when it crashed into high volt­age power lines at 400 feet and burst into flames while at­tempt­ing to land in heavy fog and winds.

All 30 pas­sen­gers and 10 crew were killed.

‘‘We were very lucky,’’ Mrs Lang­ton says.

‘‘They were a lovely, beau­ti­ful crew. It was aw­ful to know that ev­ery one of them had crashed.’’
