Date: October 20, 1948 Location: Prestwick Airport, Scotland Airline: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Lillian Langton and her husband escaped being involved in a fatal plane crash in 1948.
Their Dutch Airlines plane was returning to Scotland when it crashed into high voltage power lines at 400 feet and burst into flames while attempting to land in heavy fog and winds.
All 30 passengers and 10 crew were killed.
‘‘We were very lucky,’’ Mrs Langton says.
‘‘They were a lovely, beautiful crew. It was awful to know that every one of them had crashed.’’
