An artwork by New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell is just one of 25 images featuring in the largest Christmas Advent Calendar Auckland has ever seen.

The advent calendar will be unveiled in Wynyard Quarter next month.

Auckland Council organisation Waterfront Auckland is co-ordinating the project in which images will be added to the 12 metre high calendar being installed on The Gantry in Silo Park.

Calendar doors will open each day from December 1 until Christmas Day to reveal a Kiwi Christmas scene.

Waterfront Auckland chairman Bob Harvey says the calendar will lend a festive flavour to the waterfront.

‘‘I urge everyone to come down to see this magnificent artistic creation and to reflect on what Christmas means to them and how they can give back to the less fortunate,’’ he says.

Art appreciation: Renowned artist Karl Maughan teaches Richmond Road School students about creating art with oil paints.
