Fun fundraiser seeks walkers
You don’t need to be a marathon runner to celebrate, remember and fight back for Cancer Society Auckland’s Relay for Life.
Teams of friends, families, colleagues and school groups can now sign up to walk together to raise funds in support of those with cancer in the society’s key fundraiser.
Cancer Society Auckland chief executive John Loof says there is no event quite like it.
Live music, a fun camping out atmosphere, a special candlelit ceremony, food and family fun all play a part in the relay. The event provides much-needed funds for the Cancer Society, which receives no direct government funding.
‘‘Relay For Life is an opportunity for us to talk about cancer, how it has affected our families and our lives,’’ Mr Loof says.
‘‘You can do one or 100 laps – you just need to make sure that you have team spirit and someone to keep the baton moving.’’
Team signups take place this month and next for the February and March relays.
