No more trees

Auckland City Harbour News - - LETTERS -

While walking through some quiet Pt Chevalier streets we discovered an unsettling harbinger of the future.

A corner site on Moa Rd and Kanuka St had been clear-felled leaving five stumps of mature trees.

My friend who lives nearby said they were large, beautiful, mostly oak, trees.

The house had also been removed to leave a vacant site.

If these tree removals are permissible under the current tree rules, there will be greater losses when the Resource Management Reform bill passes into law.

As reported in your paper, this bill will revoke most tree protection rules.

A clear-felled site will be the norm, rather than the exception.

Our next generation will not experience cool tree canopies in Auckland.
