Chance to name a Sealink ferry

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

A new ferry is sailing into Waiheke and Sealink would like the public to name it.

Sealink has commissioned a new vessel to service and supply the Waiheke community and is hoping for a name that reflects the places the vessel will go and the work it will do.

Ideally, the chosen name will encapsulate that or perhaps commemorate a significant locale, person, event or mythology related to the island, the berthing points or the waters the vessel will ply in her years of service.

It is a multi-purpose craft which will carry passengers, vehicles and freight and will primarily service Waiheke.

Built by Ship Repair Ltd in Whangarei, the new ferry will be launched later this year.

Sealink would like the name to come from the community they serve and invites suggestions for the naming of the vessel.

The creator of the chosen name will win a stay at Great Barrier Lodge, with accommodation, one evening’s meal and travel for car and passenger by Sealink to Great Barrier Island.

The prize is for two adults and up to two children.
