Movies in Parks back

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Movies in Parks looks set to return with funding from four local boards resurrecting a reduced programme of events across Auckland next month.

The Waitemata Local Board has approved the continuation of the programme.

A new proposal includes eight films across the Waitemata, Henderson/Massey, Devonport/Takapuna and Waitakere local board areas.

Waitemata events portfolio holder Rob Thomas says local boards have been able to reduce the overall cost of the programme creating better value for ratepayers.

Movies in Parks has always been a local event and funding should never have been allocated as a regionalbased programme during the transition to the Auckland super-city, he says.

‘‘These events generate a real sense of community and attract hundreds of people to local parks. Despite what Wellington might claim, the community of Grey Lynn is the heart of the New Zealand film and television industry.’’
