Unwanted cellphones might be technological trash to many but they are lifesaving treasures to Starship children’s hospital.

The Starship Foundation has raised an impressive $2 million so far from more than 650,000 phones that have been donated to the Starship Mobile Phone Appeal since the campaign launched four years ago.

The $2m milestone was celebrated at Starship last week with Prime Minister John Key, who donated the first phone in February 2009 and donated another phone to start the ball rolling towards the next $2m.

The money helps fund the Starship National Air Ambulance Service which flies medical experts to life-threatening emergencies around the country.

Wanted: Isaiah Morrell, 21, is wanted on dishonesty charges and for breaching his community work order. He is Maori, 1.81 metres tall, and of fat build.
