Risking life and limb

Twenty-five years ago a motorcycle accident nearly killed Phillip Ramsden.

Now the survivor wants to share his experiences in the hope it will encourage other riders to wear the appropriate safety gear when heading out on the road.

In 1988 Mr Ramsden was 28 and things were looking good for the up-and-coming young chef who had just been offered his first gig in charge of a restaurant kitchen.

It all came crashing to a halt though after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his motorbike along the busy Pakuranga Highway.

Safety first: The MTA is disappointed with the number of people who don’t wear suitable safety gear while riding scooters and motorbikes.
