People from all walks of life have given their happy thoughts to writer Melissa Mebus in support of children’s charity KidsCan. The happy memories and musings of more than 50 New Zealanders have been compiled in the book My Happy Place illustrated by schoolchildren. Actor Sam Neill, world champion shearer David Fagan and Herne Bay author Witi Ihimaera are among those who put pen to paper for the charity which supports disadvantaged Kiwi kids. Inspiration for My Happy Place came from a concern for children living in poverty and a fascination with how young people interpret life through illustration, Ms Mebus says. A donation will be made to KidsCan with every copy of My Happy Place sold. The book is available online at small and in selected stores nationwide.
