APO chair­woman be­comes pa­tron

Dame Rosanne Meo will be among fine com­pany as the Auck­land Phil­har­mo­nia Orches­tra Board of Trustees chair­woman takes up a new po­si­tion as pa­tron of the orches­tra.

She joins ex­ist­ing pa­trons Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Cather­ine Tizard and Sir James Wal­lace.

The role will give Dame Rosanne more time to ad­vo­cate for the APO after eight years as board chair­woman.

There is still much work to be done to en­sure a sus­tain­able fu­ture for the orches­tra, she says.

‘‘The Gov­ern­ment’s or­ches­tral sec­tor re­view is a crit­i­cal first step in se­cur­ing the fu­ture of the APO.’’

Coun­ties Manukau District Health Board chief ex­ec­u­tive Geraint Martin will suc­ceed Dame Rosanne as chair­man.

Mr Martin has sat on the board since 2009 and says he is look­ing for­ward to con­tin­u­ing Dame Rosanne’s work.

The APO board is now tak­ing the op­por­tu­nity to ex­pand its num­ber from seven to nine with new ap­point­ments ex­pected in the com­ing months.
