Auckland Choral concert features music fit for a king
Auckland Choral will perform music fit for royalty when it takes to the stage later this month.
The For a King concert is inspired by the coronations of kings and queens and will fea- ture some of Handel’s finest works.
It includes his Coronation Anthems, Music for the Royal Fireworks, Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and Organ Concerto No 5 with soloist James Tibbles, an early music specialist at the University of Auckland.
The programme features a mix of choral and instrumental music, with Pipers Sinfonia led by Miranda Hut- ton, a baroque specialist.
Soprano Lilia Carpinelli will sing the mournful aria Piangero´ la sorte from Giulio Cesare.
The performance will be conducted by music director Professor Uwe Grodd.
The concert is at Holy Trinity Cathedral on April 20 at 7.30pm.
