OnTheMove keeps drivers up to date

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

The NZ Transport Agency has launched a new service to give drivers email alerts about road conditions and incidents on state highways.

OnTheMove can be customised so you only receive emails about the roads that you use.

Regional traffic operations manager Kathryn Musgrave says this will be useful for people heading away on long trips, and commuters.

But drivers shouldn’t use OnTheMove while behind the wheel.

‘‘It’s unsafe and illegal to check messages or data on a mobile phone or other device while driving,’’ she says.

‘‘If you’re driving alone, you need to check for alerts before your trip begins or during a rest stop on your journey.’’

Only major incidents will be sent out as alerts.

NZTA also has highway information services at 0800 444 449 and highwayinfo.govt.nz.
