removal of fare collection on board trains.

Often the frustrated commuter is faced with the option of queueing for a ticket machine or missing the train.

I was one of the hapless commuters at Britomart station who were ushered through temporary airport-style queue railing by security guards to take our turns at the ticket machines.

Meanwhile the train to Waitakere departed.

Furthermore, suburban station ticket machines often do not have change and therefore will not allow a ticket purchase.

When ticket machines are out of order an 0800 number would be useful to report malfunctions. Then they could be quickly fixed. I have often helped people to buy tickets from the machines when they find the touchscreen technology too daunting.

Surely AT could consider having onboard ticket sales restored.
